Overland Park, April 30, 2012: The mayors of three Midwest cities and a young artist heading to Las Vegas to celebrate his high school graduation with Sir Elton John. A James Beard Best Chef contender and a business leader who put Union Station in the black. Booksellers who bring the world’s most celebrated authors to town and an artistic director whose performers walk on walls – including the Nelson Art Gallery.
What do these and 87 other individuals have in common? They’re all members of KC Magazine’s first ever KC 100 list – a compilation of fascinating people in all categories of the magazine’s lifestyle content, including the arts, retail, politics, philanthropy, culinary arts, home design and architecture.
We recognized the group in the April issue of KC Magazine and paid them homage at a cocktail party in their honor at the Garment District in the Power & Light District.
“It’s a list only the city magazine could pull together: the first ever KC 100, a compilation of individuals who make life better in Kansas City,” says Katie Van Luchene, executive editor of KC Magazine. “It was a difficult task to whittle our original list of thousands of people we admire down to just 100. Of course, there are names our readers recognized, but we also included folks who might not be as well known. There’s nothing we like more than introducing an up-and-comer to our community.”
